About Event

The Mug Race is hosted by the Rudder Club of Jacksonville and the Palatka Yacht Club. The Rudder Club is the event organizing authority. The Mug Race is a 38 nautical mile one-way race down the St. Johns River from Palatka to Orange Park FL. It is open to all sailboats with a mast height of 44 feet or less. There will be two separate starts using the same start line, one for multihulls followed by one for other boats. 
 
The Tall Ships Race is for boats with mast hights over 44 feet.  It is a different event on Regatta Network.

    We received this very kind offer from the Robert and Beverly Morgan regarding docking in Palatka: "We own the large boathouse and smaller dock to the north of the Quality Inn and Memorial Bridge - at your starting point. Should anyone need a place to tie up their boat and/or park their car, please be comfortable using our place. Plenty of water - 5 to 18 feet with deep access.     As of Monday March 18, the manager at Crystal Cove Marina tells me they have a small amount of transient dock space. They will make it available to Mug Racers for $10 on Friday night before the race. Call to check availability 386 328 4000. BTW, if you have an emergency and need to pull out of the water on race day, they will waive all ramp fees. Thank you, Crystal Cove! ...

    As of Monday March 18, the manager at the Quality Inn (386 328 3481) tells me they still have plenty of rooms at the discounted Mug Race rate. If you want to stay there and haven't booked a room, be sure you say 'Mug Race' when you make the reservation. If you already booked and didn't say Mug Race, call them and they can arrange to apply the discount. Their dock is free to hotel guests, first come first serve. ...
