Lloyd Harbor racers:
The 2013 LHYC Spring Series - THE RACE FOR THE CASE was completed this weekend. Results are on the links at the bottom of this message.
Race Committee volunteers ran one ambitious race in the faltering breeze on Saturday and 2 races on Sunday which made for an exciting series with stiff divisional competition - no boat won 2 races - Many thanks to our volunteers.
With more breeze than expected early saturday, R/C called an 11 nm course for the JAM division and an 8 nm windward leeward course for the Spin divisions. In Spinnaker 2, the USMMA Soverel 33 outlasted J/44 Resolute and J/105 Shakedown for the win. In spinnaker division Frers 33 Brilliant took the bullet, with the J/24 team Double Vision correcting over J/80 Soul Rebel for second and third respectively.
The JAM division, did not fare as well with the breeze proving insufficient to complete Saturdays course within the time allotted.
Sunday, therefore had the R/C setting shorter courses eager to complete 2 races. With steady breeze and light rain the JAM division race 2 was set on a 6.42 nm course. Pending protest results, Hunter 34 Jumping Jack Flash took line honors with Elite 346 Water Music in Second and Beneteau 393 Breeze Pleeze following in third.
The Spin divisions were sent on a 6 nm windward leeward into Huntington Bay. Spin Divison 2 saw another Soverel 33 - Deviation - besting the Merchant Marine Soverel 33 entry by just 7 seconds corrected with J/44 Resolute in third. Spin division 3 found the J/24 Double Vision correcting for the win with J/80 Soul Rebel taking second by just 2 seconds over Tartan 10 Dreadlocks...with both boats pending protest.
Race 3 for the JAM boats was a shorter 3.69 nm with a downwind start. Beneteau 393 Breeze Pleeze took the win on the short course, but pending results of the race 2 protest, the Hunter 34 Jumping Jack Flash with second in the race stands at the top of the leader board for the regatta. Elite 346 Water Music took third for the race.
After a brief delay due to an injury on board J/29 RIFT, in the final Spinnaker division 2 race, on the same 6 nm course, J/44 Resolute held off J/105 Shakedown for first place - and the Spin 2 divisional win. In the battle of the Soverels, Deviation bested Santana for third place. And as with all other divisions - Spin divison 3 saw a different winner - this time the Tartan 10 Dreadlocks took the gun with J/24 Double Vision correcting over J/80 Soul Rebel for second place and the Spin 3 divisional win.
Many thanks to all participants, especially the "out of town" boats that made their way to Huntington to compete for the case.
