Lake Canyon Yacht Club and J/22 Fleet 17 cordially invite you to attend the J/22,J/24 Circuit Regatta to be held Nov 15-16, 2014.This is a regatta for J22 and J24 sailboats.
Rules The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by the 2013-2016 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), J/22 Southwest District Notice of Circuit and the International J22 Class Association Rules (IJ22CA) and the Notice of Circuit for the Texas J/24 Circuit and the International J24 Class Association Rules.
RRS Rule 87 will be changed as follows: The sailing instructions may change a class rule.
J//22 Class Only -RRS 90.3(a) as modified herein, will apply after substituting “Regatta” for “race”, “Notice of Circuit” for “sailing instructions”, and “competitor” for “boat”.
Class Rules 2.8 (eligibility), 2.9 (measurement certificate) and 8.9 (weight limit) of the IJ22CA Class Rules will not apply for eligibility to participate in this event. However, Class Rules 2.8 and 2.9 will affect scoring in the J/22 Southwest Circuit, see Scoring below. Basically, this means that the class membership requirement, boat measurement requirement and the crew weight limitation do not apply for eligibility to participate and will not affect scoring in this individual Circuit Regatta. However, Yachts lacking a measurement certificate or whose competitor does not meet the class membership requirement will be scored according to the Notice of Circuit.
RRS Appendix A2 will be changed to read as follows: Each competitor’s series scores shall be the total of their race scores, there will be no throw-outs. A race is completed if scored; see rule 90.3(a). The Competitor with the lowest series score wins and others shall be ranked accordingly.

2 Advertising
These Circuit Regattas are classified as Category C events per ISAF Regulation 20 as modified by the International J/22 Class Association (IJ22CA) Class Rule 2.9.8(a).
3 Eligibility
J22 Class Only –
J/22 Class yachts in compliance with IJ22CA Rules will be scored. In accordance with the J/22 Southwest District Notice of Circuit, competitors who are not class members, boats without a valid measurement certificate or do not meet the class crew weight limit may participate, be scored and receive appropriate trophies in this Regatta. However, the lack of class membership or a measurement certificate will affect scoring in the J/22 Southwest Circuit, see the Notice of Circuit for additional information.
J/24 Class Only – The Regatta is open to all J/24 yachts as defined by the IJCA and whose entries are accepted by the organizer (“Competitors”). Helmsmen must be full members of a NJCA or the IJCA. Competitors must meet all ownership and class membership requirements, complete all requirements set forth in the Notice of Circuit for the J/24 Texas Circuit and pay all required registration fees to become official participants.
4 Entry and Fees
4.1 The entry fee is $80 pre-registered and $90 at registration. To be eligible for pre-registration, a completed registration form must be completed online before Nov 15, 2015. Online registration is available on the J22 Southwest District website at www.j22southwest.org. All registration fees are payable prior to Nov 15, 2014 at 9:00 AM.
4.2 Entry fee will include Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, Sunday breakfast.
5 Schedule

6 Measurement
J/22 Class Only -
It is expected that all Yachts meet the IJ22CA Class Rules. A measurement certificate is not required to enter/participate. Not having a current measurement certificate will affect a boat’s scoring in the Southwest Circuit, see Notice of Circuit on the J/22 Southwest District website at www.j22southwest.org
J/24 Class Only – All Competitors are subject to inspection and measurement at any time during the Regatta. The mainsail, 150% genoa and spinnaker must all have the same sail numbers as their J/24 yacht hull number. In accordance with Class Rule 2.5.3, all yachts must have a current, valid Measurement Certificate. Any yacht without a Measurement Certificate should contact a class measurer or the Governor to arrange for yacht measurement in order to obtain a Measurement Certificate. Any yacht without a Measurement Certificate may race in the Regatta with the prior approval of the Governor. All yachts must also carry aboard the Inventory of Required and Optional Equipment per Class Rules 2.5.6 and 3.7.3. This form is the sole responsibility of each owner or helmsman and does not require a class measurer to complete. All Competitors will be subject to crew requirements pursuant to Class Rule 5 and encapsulated corrector weights pursuant to Class Rule 3.7.2. Scales will be provided at registration for weighing all crew members. No formal provisions for boat measurement will be available at the Regatta.
7 Sailing Instructions
Sailing Instructions will be distributed at registration.
8 Venue
The courses will be sailed on Canyon Lake. Directions to the hosting Yacht Club are below.
9 Courses
Racing will take place on Windward/Leeward courses or variations thereof. Offset weather marks and leeward gates may be used.
10 Scoring
10.1 J/22 Class Only - Five races are scheduled, with the option of a 6th Race, of which two shall be completed to constitute a Regatta. No races will be discarded, this changes Appendix A2. At registration, a competitor shall declare to score the boat or helmsman as the competitor for purposes of scoring.
10.2 J/24 Class Only - The Regatta will consist of as many as six (6) races over two (2) consecutive days. Three (3) races must be completed to count towards the overall 2014 J/24 Texas Circuit series scores. No race scores will be excluded from a boat’s Regatta score. This modifies rule A2. The scoring penalty as provided by RRS 44.3 will apply.
11 Launching and Haul-out Restrictions
Boats shall launch prior to 12 noon on the first day of scheduled racing. Boats (including rudders) may not be removed from the water during the Regatta without the approval of the Protest Committee or Chief Judge.
12 Diving Equipment and Plastic Pools
Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used.
13 Radio Communications
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
14 Trophies
Trophies will be awarded for the top 5 finishers.
15 Bow Numbers - J22/Only
To facilitate scoring and the identification of boats for the purpose of RRS 29.1, 29.2, 30.1, 30.2 and 30.3, unique bow numbers are required to be fixed to both external port and starboard sides of the forward bow area of each competing crew's boat hull. These numbers must be affixed to both port and starboard as follows:
The leading edge of the forward number shall be 250mm/10” aft of the stem.
The leading edge of the aft numbers shall be 100mm/4” aft of the aft edge of the forward number.
The top edge of both numbers shall be 100mm/4” from the rail.
All numbers must contrast with the color of the hull and be at least 305mm/12" in height.
It shall be the responsibility of each participating competitor to obtain and affix the assigned bow numbers to their yacht. The Fleets, host Yacht Clubs and the Southwest District are not responsible to provide numerals for bow numbers.
Bow numbers 01 through 10 are pre-assigned respectively to the top ten competitors of the 2013 J/22 Southwest Circuit. Bow numbers 11 through 99 will be assigned out of the then open pool of unassigned numbers by the applicable Regatta’s organizing authority, who will accept on a first come basis via the registration process bow number declarations from new Circuit participants. Issues relating to bow numbers (e.g. assignment, placement, size, etc.) will be resolved solely by the USJ22CA Southwest District Governor of record.
Disclaimer of Liability
Competitors participate in the Regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the Regatta.
18 Berthing
Competitors may tie anywhere along the main walkway, or A and B docks.

ADDENDUM TO NOR FOR J/24 CLASS
This is the 7th Circuit Stop of the 2014 J/24 Texas Circuit.
The Regatta is open to all J/24 yachts as defined by the IJCA and whose entries are accepted by the organizer (“Competitors”). Helmsmen must be full members of a NJCA or the IJCA. Competitors must meet all ownership and class membership requirements, complete all requirements set forth in the Notice of Circuit for the J/24 Texas Circuit and pay all required registration fees to become official participants.
The same four (4) designated class sails must be used the entire Regatta, and each Competitor must designate their sail royalty numbers by submitting them online at www.j24texas.com or to the District 14 Governor (“Governor”) prior to the close of registration. Substitutions of sails can be made only with the prior request and approval of the Governor.
Races will be sailed on windward/leeward courses or variations thereof. Offset weather marks and leeward gates may be used.
The Regatta will consist of as many as six (6) races over two (2) consecutive days. Three (3) races must be completed to count towards the overall 2014 J/24 Texas Circuit series scores.
