The Long-distance Single-handed Race was conceived in 1998 by Gene Maly with the help of Allan Patterson. It is normally sailed in June/July. This challenging course starts at Monterey Mile Buoy, takes MBARI Research Buoy to starboard on the way to Santa Cruz Mile Buoy, and then back to Monterey âFâ mark.
