First held in 1989, the Baltimore Harbor Cup has been, for many northern Chesapeake Bay boats, the final distance race of the season. Coming late in October, it has had it's share of demanding sailing conditions and chilly temperatures, but, in other years, has seen beautiful autumn sailing weather.
Beginning at Baltimore Light at the mouth of the Magothy River, and ending in Baltimore Harbor near Fells Point, the race typically follows a >20 nm route taking boats north toward Seven Foot Knoll, east toward the Eastern Shore, back around Craighill Light, and then up the Patapsco River, under the Francis Scott Key Bridge and into the harbor. The finish line will be off the dock at the Anchorage Marina. Race mark information is available here.
Following the regatta we will host a ROCKING party at the Anchorage Marina with all you can drink beverages, delicious food, live music, and great friends. Temporary tie up during the party is no charge, so please join us after the race!
Then stay the night (our sponsor, Anchorage Marina, offers a discounted $40 overnight charge for racers). On Sunday, the Rock Creek Racing Association will hold it's Francis Scott Key Classic, a CBYRA sanctioned "Race Back" for boats heading back to the bay.
