INVITATION: SYSCO extends an invitation to all sailboat skippers to compete
in this fun race on the Columbia River between the I-5 and I-205 bridges. The
objective of this race is to introduce novice sailors to the sport of sailboat
racing.
DESCRIPTION: SYSCO is requesting one-design, PHRF, Level, and Cruising
boats to invite friends and others interested in experiencing a fun sailboat race.
Skippers will be asked to register for the race 2 weeks ahead of the race date
through sailpdx.org. Each boat will be asked to carry one or more individuals
that may be familiar with sailing but have seldom raced on the Columbia River.
All boats are encouraged to take at least one novice sailor.
ELIGIBILITY AND INSTRUCTIONS: This event will be governed by the Racing
Rules of Sailing and the OCSA General Sailing Instructions, except that no
trophies will be awarded. Entrants agree to comply with the provisions of the
OCSA General Sailing Instructions, and specifically the Disclaimer of Liability
and Insurance Requirements of sections 20 and 21.
DATE AND TIME: Sunday, June 26. The first warning signal is at 1700 hrs.
REGISTRATION: Registration is free. Boats are encouraged to register online at
www.sailpdx.org. Novice sailors may be assigned to boats by race coordinators if
you have space. Please contact commodore@syscosailing.org if you have space
for new crew members.
FEES: None! It is assumed entrants and novice sailors will be so grateful at
this method of being exposed to the sport of sailboat racing, that drinks will be
purchased for the Race Committee at the social after the race.
CLASS DIVISIONS: There will probably be 2 divisions. Division #1 includes all
one-design boats: Cal 20, Ranger 20, Venture 21, Catalina 22, Martin 24, J/24,
Moore 24, Melges 24, Merit 25. Division #2 will be PHRF, Level, and Cruising Classes.
COURSES: Courses will be determined by the Race Committee and be posted
on the committee boat.
SCORING: Skippers are expected to note their finish position relative to others
and report such information to anyone willing to attach significance to its
importance. Extra points, worth nothing except goodwill from all your fellow
races, will be awarded to those boats with the most novice crews.
HEARING REQUESTS: Hearing requests are emphatically discouraged.
Skippers are encouraged to settle all alleged infringements in private and in the
Corinthian spirit.
