Since 2008, John Larson’s daughter and widow, CIYC Commodore, Deborah (Larson) Tyhurst, and Betty Larson, have hosted his memorial race, assuring that the competitors enjoy a few of John’s favorites – sailing, rum, and chocolate chip cookies! Deborah will provide a Skipper’s Bag for each boat and lead a toast to John when the boats have congregated in the starting area. This will be a Pursuit Race (‘reverse start’) with scoring and start times based on PHRF boat ratings and the course distance. Each boat’s reported start and finish times will be on her honor. The boat with the highest handicap rating (theoretically, the slowest boat) starts first, and subsequent boats start in order of their decreasing ratings. The order in which each boat finishes determines her place within her fleet.
