As you know, this Saturday June 6th is the New Orleans/Gulfport Race and next Friday, June 11th is the Annual Gulfport to Pensacola Race. In light of the BP Oil spill, we have been keeping an extra close watch on the conditions for both of these races. I am pleased to report that there is no oil, or projected oil, which will affect the New Orleans to Gulfport Race and that race will go forward as scheduled. It’s not too late to register! Please go on line and register so we can continue one of the oldest races in the United States.
As for the Gulfport to Pensacola Race, the projections are constantly changing and as of now it is our hope and intention to go forward with the race. However, we will continue to closely monitor the situation. I am in contact with the Commodore of the Pensacola Yacht Club, continuing to check on conditions in Pensacola, which may have an effect on the race. We will make a final decision by 6:00pm, Tuesday evening, June 8th, but again it is our hope to conduct the race. So please don’t cancel any plans and continue your preparations for this wonderful event!
